Coco Gauff

Youth

Cori “Coco” Gauff has taken the tennis world by storm and she’s only 15 years old. This month the young superstar has become the youngest player to rank in the top 50 since 2005. Guaff was born March 13, 2004 to Candi and Corey Gauff in Delray Beach, Florida. Both of Cori’s parents are NCAA Division I athletes in basketball and track and field respectively. It is said that Gauff experimented with a variety of sports as a child, but would soon choose to focus on tennis. This was mostly due to being inspired by the Williams sisters and because she preferred to compete in an individual sport. Guaff earned a sponsorship to train at Patrick Mouratoglou’s academy in France. She began playing on the ITF Junior Circuit at 13 and finished runner-up at the junior 2017 US Open in just her fourth ITF event, making her the youngest finalist in the tournament’s history. She became the No. 1 junior in the world after winning the junior Grand Slam singles title over McNally at the 2018 French Open. Most notably, Guaff would become the youngest player to reach the main draw at Wimbledon by qualifying in the Open Era at the age of 15 years and 3 months old. She would go on to upset No. 44 Venus Williams in straight sets. This would be a defining moment in watching Gauff compete again the very woman who helped to inspire her to enter the world of tennis. Cori “CoCo” Guaff has signed endorsement deals with both New Balance and the Italian food company Barilla, who is also a sponsor of Roger Federer.
